Five Years After, Comrade Marble Bags OSUSU Award

—Engages Heartthrob, Temitope

A leading light in the struggle for the actualisation of Osun State University Students’ Union and lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, Osun State University, Comrade Ismail Afolabi was on Thursday rewarded by the Union.

Mr Afolabi who is fondly addressed as comrade Marble bagged the award five years after graduating from the University. He is one of the former students and leaders of thoughts who among other giant strides advanced the moves for the actualization of the Union and had indelible imprints across the six campuses of the institution.

He was handed “Man of Valour” award alongside other comrades including Basit Olokuta, Ebunoluwa Ojo and host of others from Ikire and outside Ikire campus of the University.

Expressing his gratitude, Marble who had earlier engaged to his heart-throb, Temitope, described the gesture as a challenge to do more, adding that he and others who received the awards gave their all without expecting any return. He applauded the leadership of the Union.

Afterwards, he dedicated the award to his academic mentor, Mr Awoniyi Folorunsho Emmanuel, his significant other, Temitope and other former student leaders in the college of Humanities and Culture saying:

“Having an unassuming mentor and lecturer who only reprimands me whenever I am wrong or not doing enough and constantly intercedes for me whenever I am right, even to the high heaven, strengthened my character and greatly enhanced my deeds in UNIOSUN.

“Mr Awoniyi Folorunsho Emmanuel represents everything a mentor should be. He is my beloved father-figure and a blessing to behold. This award is hereby dedicated to him and my happy place; Temitope whose mini birthday bash was shortened so that I could attend OSUSU Dinner and Award Night.

“The recognition is also dedicated to my highly respected battle buddies including but not limited to Comrades: Basit Olokuta, Siji Samson, Titiloye Kehinde, Olalere Sodiq, Lekan Bello, Gift, Voices, Adetunji Ajaji, Omilana Temileyin, Toafeek Nafisat, Vic Baba, Ghana, Jamo, Capable, Mighty, Utti, O.tayo, Dazzle, Asheleb Victor, Fisayo, Ohamara Victor, Akano Richard, Adetoro Fatimoh and host of others.”

Filled with joy, Marble in a separate message to his heartthrob stated: “there are no words adequate to describe and appreciate you for consenting to be a co-pilot in my affairs and for giving me your all, for your tolerance, understanding and selflessness despite my coconut head and our differences.

“Today, as we resolved to move to the future as companions, I thank you for holding forth and being strong when the going was tough, threatened and troubled to the nucleus. Thank you for seeing the vision of a happy family with me and for sharing my true intentions.

“As you celebrate another year of grace and favour from God, may the Almighty continue to abide with you all the days of your life.”
