Local Government Chairmen in Osun State have expressed concern over the action of the immediate past Governor of the State and current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola which they said could cause breach of public peace.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun in a statement on Tuesday, in Osogbo, said the conduct of the Minister and his security guards during his road show was uncalled for.

He called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to probe the sporadic shooting by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The Chairman said that the peaceful people of the State may no longer condone the Minister’s politics of bitterness and campaign of acrimony which could degenerate to loss of life and property.

“Osun is a peaceful State and everybody knows that the incumbent Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola is a peace loving man.

“The recent action of the former Governor and his security guards could be best described as criminal which can cause breach of public peace and as well, endanger the lives of the citizens to uncertainties.

“We therefore call on Federal Government and Inspector General of Police to invite Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for an interrogation and beam the search light into his unscrupulous act that had unleasshed mayhem on the innocent citizens of the State.

“We are aware of his desperation to incur political demagoguery and register venoms to pollute the widely-acknowledged peaceful atmospheric condition of the State.

“With the recent display of uncouthness, no doubt in the fact that the minister’s insatiable appetite for power and political relevance had been totally lost to egoism and egocentrism.

“To us as a “Tier of Government”, we are resolved to continue to ‘align with and abide with’ the policies and programmes of the Oyetola led Administration which had been painstakingly designed to turn around the fortunes of the State and make life meaningful and worthwhile for the masses.

“However, there is a need to sound a warning to the officers and men of the NSCDC to take caution and remain precautious in line with the tenets of their profession as enshrined in the Constitution setting up the agency.

“Anything short of that would henceforth be considered as deliberate action to plunge the State into chaos which may resort to massive revolt from the citizenry as no individual is more powerful than the State”, the statement reads in parts.
