YPF Commiserates With Yoruba People Over Deaths Of Prominent Leaders
A sociocultural group, Yoruba Progressive Forum (YPF) has commiserated with Yoruba People over the demise of two of its illustrious sons and two prominent traditional leaders in Yoruba land.
YPF names the two Illustrious sons as former Interim Leader of Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan and former Governor of Oyo State , Chief Alao Akala.
The Prominent Traditional Rulers who recently joined their ancestors according to Yoruba Progressive Forum are the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 and Olu of Olode Oba David Omisore.
In a condolence message signed by its Coordinator Alhaji Olalekan Lateef, popularly known as Asiri Ede, and the group’s Publicity Secretary, Ojeyemi Elijah, they described the death of the Yoruba leaders as colossal loss to Nigeria in general and Yoruba land in particular.
According to the group , late Ernest Shonekan was a stabilizer who had contributed immensely to the peace and development of Nigeria and Africa at large, noting that the elder statesman gave his best to the Yoruba race, the country and the continent of Africa.
“Chief Shonekan was a great Pan-Africanist and great descendant of Oduduwa who came to lead the country from the front at a very challenging time.
“He led when Nigeria was at the brink of collapse due to the annulment of the prominent June 12, 1993 presidential election reportedly won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola.” the message reads
However, the group condoled the immediate family of late former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Alao Akala who passed away recently after a brief illness.
The group described Akala as a great leader who gave his best in service to his people, added that his departure would be missed greatly by everyone. He however wished the departed soul an eternal rest in the world beyond.
Similarly, Yoruba Progressive Forum expressed shock at the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, describing him as an exemplar in royalty.
The group stated that the demise of the royal icon, who it described as an exemplary royal father, as painful despite his old age, adding that his wisdom and wealth of experience would be sorely missed by Yoruba People.
YPF expressed his condolences to the immediate family of the Olubadan, the Olubadan-in-Council and all Ibadan indigenes as well as the Oyo State Traditional Council.
On the passing of Olu of Olode, the group commiserated with the former Deputy Governor of Osun, Senator Iyiola Omisore on the demise of his father.
Describing the Olu of Olode as a great exemplar in royalty YPF said that late monarch gave his all to see that Garage Olode is developed and took its pride of place as one of the major town in Yoruba land.
