Barley two days to the conduct of Local Government Election in Osun State, the Chairman, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Otunba Segun Oladitan has reiterated the commitment of the commission to conduct free, fair and credible election.
OSIEC Chairman however said that the council polls would be held as already being planned.
Recall that OSIEC had fixed October 15 for the conduct of the local government elections in the state .
Otunba Oladitan while featuring on Rave Fm news and current affairs program “Frank Talk”, on Thursday said as of today no any court order is prohibiting the commission from conducting the local government polls.
When asked how many political parties are participating in the Saturday election, Oladitan said only one political party signified intention to contest in the poll.
Oladitan, however, did not mention the name of the political party he was referring to.
He, however, vowed to declare winners of the elections by Sunday, a day after the conduct of the elections.
Speaking on alleged illegality on the conduct of the Saturday local government elections, the OSIEC boss explained that, it is the law that empowered the commission to conduct the election adding that only the court can determine its illegality after its conclusion.
CityMirrorNews reports that that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All People’s Party (APP) are in court with different litigations challenging OSIEC over the planned Saturday local government elections.
