Osun First Lady Set To Partner With NDLEA To Wage War Against Drug Abuse In The Society

For the umpteenth times , the wife of the governor of Osun state,Mrs Kafayat Oyetola has thrown a challenge to all stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse in the society to be alive to their responsibilities.

Mrs Oyetola who was emphatic on the clarion national and international call to wage a total war on the menace of drug abuse, maintained that if other relevant agencies in Nigeria will team up with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), a lasting breakthrough would be achieved forthwith

The Osun First Lady who is also the Chairperson, Southern Governors Wives Forum, stated this while playing host to the delegation of officials of the Osun State office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,
who were on a courtesy call to her office.

In a voice laced with the acknowledgement and appreciation of the series of efforts being carried out on a daily basis by NDLEA to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and other hazardous practises associated with drug consumption ,Mrs Oyetola urged the officials of the Agency to continue to live up to the desired billings until a lasting solution is achieved .

She told the visiting officials the series of efforts being championed by the wives of the governors of all the southern states under the purview of Southern Governors Wives Forum in Nigeria which she heads as its Chairperson.

Mrs Oyetola stated “permit me to highlight emphatically that as wives and mothers that we are in our various states, our Forum is not leaving any stone unturned to checkmate the inherent dangers of drug abuse.

“Against this backdrop, the Southern Governors Wives Forum under my leadership is not unrelenting in mapping out from time to time various campaigns and sensitisation programs and strategies in our different states to eradicate this worrisome and disturbing trend .

“I must be quick to add that drug abuse is not limited to the youths alone but even adults .

“However, let me emphasize that as professionals and stakeholders in this crusade, you can not fight it alone.

“In line with this ,l call on other stakeholders to team up with you (NDLEA)with a view to achieving a saner society where the attendant ills associated with the menace of drug addiction and abuse will become a thing of the past .

“I commend you ( NDLEA) for a job well done so far and I want to assure you of our resolve under the umbrella body of Southern Governors Wives Forum to continue to give you all the necessary support from time to time .

“Together we shall fight the war of drug abuse in our societies ” Concluded Mrs Oyetola in her remarks .

Earlier, in his address, the Osun state Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Yomade Ogunbiyi appreciated the love and support of Mrs Oyetola to the Agency in the fight against the menace of drug abuse.

Mr Ogunbiyi who also acknowledged that it is a worrisome development which should not be allowed to lie fallow, reiterated the resolve of his agency to continue to carry out their constitutionally assigned duties and responsibilities to put a stop to drug abuse in Nigeria .

The Osun state Commander of the NDLEA used the opportunity of the courtesy call to highlight among others the core objectives of the Agency to include but not limited to preventing people from engaging in any form of drug abuse as well as meting out necessary punishment on anyone found guilty of commiting same which he described as an offence punishable by law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
