85-year-old Man, 3 Others Drag To Court For Allegedly Cutting Off Osun Chief Hand
A 85-year-old man, Olawale Aminu and three others have been dragged before a magistrate court for allegedly cutting off one of the hands of a traditional chief at Papanla area in Okinni, Osun State.
Yusuff Jimoh was said to be a traditional chief in Okinni area of osun state where he was attacked with cutlass by the four accused persons on 22nd March 2022 at about 11:00 am.
Report has it that the initial intention of the four defendants were to cut off the head of chief Yusuff Jimoh but as God may save him he was able to block the cutlass with one of his hands where it was cut off .
The four suspects were apprehended and consequently brought before Osun State Magistrate Court, Osogbo on Friday on four counts charge bordering on attempted murder, grievous harm,assault and occasioning harm.
The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun told the court that “the four defendants namely; Olawale Aminu, Moruf Aminu(40yrs), Aminu Shuaib (29yrs), Jelili Suleiman (30yrs) and others now at large on the 22nd March 2022 at about 11:00 am at Papanla area, Okinni, Osun State did with intent to disfigure unlawfully attempt to cut off the head of one Yusuff Jimoh’ with cutlass which the said Yusuff Jimoh ‘m’ raised his hand to block the cutlass cut of his hand.
“They also did unlawfully inflict machete cuts on the chest and hands of one Jelili Yusuf ‘m’ which caused him grievous harm on his hand.”
He noted that the offences contravened Sections Section 516, 320, 332 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
The defence counsel to the defendants, Muiz Salihu applied for their bail on the most liberal term orally assuring that they have reliable sureties.
However, the prosecutor opposed the bail stating that “the charge against them might change considering the health condition of the victim, one of the suspects had a similar case with registration number Mos/554c/2021 where he shot one man and they may jump bail.”
The presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara granted the bail to the 85-year-old because of his age and health while others are remanded in Ilesha Correctional Facility.
He adjourned the case till April 12th 2022.
