APC 2023: Focus On A Memorable Convention, Leave Presidential Primaries For Upcoming APC’s NEC, Group Tells Buni

The foremost Tinubu support group home and abroad, Project Beyond 2023 has urged the Governor Buni’s led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC of the All Progressives Congress to focus on planning and putting up a memorable national convention for the party.

The group stressed the need for the CECPC of the party to conduct a convention that will peacefully usher in new National Executive Committee, NEC for APC.

It added that the party deserves a convention that will bring forth fresh ideas which will boost the principles of inclusiveness, patriotism, loyalty and genuine commitments of the party to weather the political storms that are ravaging the country ahead of 2023 instead focusing its energy on the presidential zoning, micro zoning or primaries.

Reacting to the news publication by sun newspaper online on Sunday, the National Director of Media & Publicity of Asiwaju Project Beyond 2023 in a statement released in Abuja urges the party national caretaker committee to focus more on the national convention which is its mandate and leave the issues of Presidential zonings and primaries to the incoming National Executive Committee to decide on.

According to him “Going through the dallies on Sunday, my directorate came across a story published by the Sun Newspaper online titled “2023 presidency: APC plots to dump S’East, S’West” and plan to micro zone the presidential ticket of our great party to the South south region of the country. Though the writer of the story was referring to what he tagged “Credible Source” who doesn’t want his name in the print as the source of the story. In as much as we don’t work on hearsays, we deem it very necessary to react to this because there is no fire without smoke and for the high level political scheming going on in our party now ahead of 2023, every information must be taken serious” Adebayo said.

“For us at the Project Beyond 2023, as a major stakeholder in APC, we have commended the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by His Excellency Governor Buni of Yobe State and other members of the committee for how far they have gone in paddling the affairs of the party, they have done their best and their best is giving us results, just last week the committee successfully inaugurated the State Chairmen of the party across the states and the next thing for them now, going by their nomenclature is to put in place a memorable national convention that will peacefully usher in new national executive council members so that history will be very soft on them and not dabble into zoning or modalities of the presidential primaries as that will be highly unpatriotic and it will negate the principle of their mandate which is clearly stated in its name “Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC” Adebayo noted.

The Project Beyond 2023 then urged the caretaker committee to limit itself to organising a memorable national convention for the party and leave the presidential ticket brouhaha to the incoming national executive council members of the party to decide on, as an attempt to zone or micro zone the presidential ticket of the party to any zone will be inimical to the success of the party at the poll come 2023 and it will be unpatriotic to Nigeria and unfair to the incoming national executive council members.
