Osun First Lady Welcomes First Baby Of The Year

The wife of the Osun State Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, on Saturday welcomed the first baby of the year at the state Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo with a charge to parents and guidance to always breast feed their babies properly for the first six months after delivery.

Mrs Oyetola while welcoming the first baby with a 2.8kg weight at 12:00a.m of the day, and second babe weighed 2.3kg born at 2:00 am maintained that, breastfeeding of the new born baby should be exclusive breast milk to give the new born baby grace to be healthy.

She charged the parents to nurture their newborns in a healthy way and make them grow and benefit from health and education opportunities
Fourteen new babies comprising 3 males and 11 females were delivered on the eve of the new year.

The first lady, who toured the maternity Ward in the company of health officials and wives of top government functionaries presented various gifts which include cash, and a bag of rice to each parent of the new babies.

Mrs Oyetola implored parents to eschew any act capable of infringing on the right of girl child and also urged them to monitor their wards to prevent them from indulging in illicit drug or cultism and other social vices.

She advised parents to duly register their newborn at any of the newly revitalised public health centres in the state to enable government monitor their progress for opportunities in health, education and other initiatives of government.

She charged parents and all to take personal responsibility for themselves and the children by observing safety protocols against COVID-19.

Mrs. Oyetola said mothers should take good care of their children as well as give them quality education they could afford based on their income.

While describing Female Genital Mutilation as barbaric, the wife of Osun Governor advised parents to desist from it and other activities that abuse child’s right

Mrs. Oyetola while congratulating the family of the new baby of the year, Mr. Ibukun and Mrs. Folakemi Joseph, advised parents to work together in the proper upbringing of their children as they are the future leaders.

The new baby of the Year who is a female child was born at 12am, weighing 2.8kg was presented with gifts and money.

Another female Baby belonging to the family of Mr. Soliu and Mrs. Zainab Salami was born at 2am weighing 2.3kg also received gifts from the wife of the Governor.

Other babies at the maternity ward were also presented with money and gifts including 25kg rice.
