Findings showed that the defendants acted upon the recent judgment of the Supreme Court that reportedly sacked the monarch and attempted to effect the judgement by removing the monarch by force.

The defendants were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful invasion and breach of public peace.

Police prosecutor, Idoko John, told the court that the defendants on the 26th of August 2022, invaded the palace of Alawo of Awo with others (now at large), armed with dangerous weapons such as machetes, axes, and charms while chanting war songs to commit the alleged crime.

He stressed that the defendants caused panic and fear to the people of Awo town and also threatened to kill the king should he fail to leave the throne.

The offences were contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 42, 86, 517, 70 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the crime preferred against them by the police.

Counsel to the defendants, Kehinde Adesiyan, urged the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms, promising that they would stand their trial.

The Magistrate, Adeyomoye Adeyeba, granted them bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

He thereafter adjourned the case to 12th October 2022, for hearing.
