Ward Congress: Ex-Osun Speaker, Salam Faults Process, Accuses Committee Of Bias
Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Dr Najeem Salam has alleged the Congress Committee set up by the National leadership of the APC to oversee Osun ward Congress of bias.
Dr Salaam told newsmen in Ejigbo that the committee was only working with the list presented to it by the Governor and not the one agreed to by party members.
He said members of the APC in his ward and across Ejigbo local government trooped out in their large numbers to participate in the exercise, while INEC officials were also available to observe it, but the supervising committee members appointed by the national headquarters of the party were not seen anywhere at the polls.
The former Speaker wondered why those in government in Osun State were afraid of election within their party when they would be facing a general election next year.
Dr Salaam who is the Executive Director, Marketing and Business Development of NIGCOMSAT maintained that imposing consensus on the party was a deliberate attempt to force some loyal members out of the APC, a development which he said would be impossible.
He called on the national leadership to address the situation to ensure that internal democracy and popular participation was deepened in the APC.
