Osun: DG Boss Calls For Strict Adherence To Traffic Rules Among Okada Riders
As part of efforts to reduce accident and ensure sanity on the road, leaders of various Okada riders and tricycle operators have called for serious punishment for any Okada rider caught driving against traffic in the state.
The leaders who agreed to strict enforcement of applicable laws on anybody that violate traffic rules across the state stressed the necessity for the government to protect the lives of both the motoring and non-motoring publics.
This was part of resolutions reached at an interactive meeting between the leaders of the Commercial Motorcycle Transport Workers and the management of Bureau of Social Services, BOSS.
Addressing the unions, The Director General, Bureau of Social Services, Mr. Richard Tinubu lauded the okada riders in the state for their support to the State Government noting that the State Government would continue to partner with them to improve their operations and standard of living.
Mr. Tinubu who observed that there has been a reduction in the rate at which criminal elements use okada to perpetrate their nefarious activities at night emphasized the need for the leaders of each group to impress it on their members that public safety is everybody’s business.
The meeting also agreed on speedy and massive production of reflective jackets for easy identification of okada riders. Responding to their request, the DG assured the Associations that government would take necessary action on reviewing chargeable fines and levies payable by okada operators.
Mr. Tinubu assured them that the state government would leave no stone unturned in order to make life bearable for their members.
Earlier in their remarks, Chairman of ACCOMORAN OKADA, Comrade Tiamiyu Ismaila and his counterpart from ACCOMORAN EXPRESS, Comrade Mukaila Ajisefini lauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his people-friendly programs and policies saying that their members have resolved to continue to support the Government while also pledging their commitment to train and sensitize their members on the best practices and safety measures.
Present at the meeting were Comrade Adebayo TAJUDEEN (MUTUN), Comrade Jimoh Rasheed of ANACOWA, Comrade Ilesanmi Lawrence from OCTMA, Comrade Ajenifuja Gbenga from MOTOAN and Alhaji Ibrahim Folorunso of TOAN.
