Osun LG Caretaker Nomination: Four Arrested In Ilesa Over Shootout
The Nigerian police command in Ilesa, Osun State on Sunday arrested four men in Ilesa town.
Those arrested according to information were suspected thugs who were in possession of guns and various dangerous weapons.
According to information gathered, crisis broke out in Isokun area of Ilesa yesterday when councillorship primary election to elect the three nominees to represent a ward in Ilesa West local Government was about to be completed, gun weilding men numbering about seven in an unregistered Sienna spacebus stormed the venue of the election and started shooting sporadically.
Eye witnesses reported that although no life was lost but several people were injured during the stampede, as everyone scampered for safety, trying to escape the shots fired by the suspected hired killers.
CityMirrorNews recalls that the new police commissioner in the state, Mr. Olokode Olawale has promised to weed off the state of criminal activities, orchestrated by political thugs and hoodlums.
The suspects who have been moved to Osogbo will be charged to court tomorrow for illegal possession of firearms, disruption of peaceful assemblage of citizens and attempted murder.
Two guns and the Sienna vehicle used for the operation have been confiscated by the police. Report also has it that a twist in turn for the event is a serving lawmaker from Ijesaland who has been making frantic efforts to secure bail for the release of those arrested.
