Gunmen Abduct 300-Lvl KWASU Student, Demand N50 Ransom

Unknown gunmen have abducted a 300Lvl Mass communication student of the Kwara State University, Malete.

The victim, simply identified as Isiaq Khadeejah, a 300 level student of the institution, was kidnapped on Sunday at Malete.

A N50 million ransom has been placed on her by the abductors.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the victim was walking on the street in the company of her friends when the incident occurred.

In a reaction, Abdulrazaq Sanni, Director, University Relations, who confirmed the development, said the management and entire university community, woke up to “the shocking news about Isiaq Khadeejah, a student of Mass Communications, who reportedly was kidnapped on Sunday, August 22,2021, along Okoru Road in Malete.”

He said, “the management is working assiduously with relevant security operatives to secure the release of Khadeejah, ensure that the culprits are brought to book and also provide adequate security on the campus.”

The Police Commissioner, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, has also deployed the anti-kidnapping squad as well as the IGP Response Team to Malete to work in collaboration with the local vigilantes and other relevant agencies to rescue the victim, the spokesman of the institution stated.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Mustapha Akanbi, (SAN), has advised the university community to be more security conscious, report strange or suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, while students should avoid keeping late nights.

He assured that measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of lives and properties of students and staff of the institution.

At the time of filing this report, officials of the institution were holding a security meeting in connection with the development at the state Ministry of Education headquarters in Ilorin.

When contacted, spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, said “the story is news to the command, all the same, efforts will be exerted to rescue the victim.”

It is the second case of abduction happening within 24 hours as one Alhaji Elefo was abducted on Monday on his farm at Tafa village near Ballah town of Asa Local Government Area of the state, while the student was abducted on Sunday.
