Osun: SMEDAN Trains, Empowers Tailors To Increase Export Potentials Of Nigerian Made Clothes

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) on Wednesday, trained and empowered 25 tailors in Osun with clothes finishing machines, as a way of boosting the export potentials of made in Nigerian clothes.

Mr Dikko Radda, the Director General of SMEDAN, represented by Deputy Director, Ibrahim Abdulmalik, said the training and empowerment programme tagged “Garment Growth Support Scheme Training Programme” is simultaneously going on in Osun and Kastina State.

Radda said the programme is targeted at ensuring made in Nigeria clothes and textiles are exportable and acceptable in other countries of the world and also to empower fashion designers/tailors, so they can expand their businesses and create employment.

He said 25 established fashion designers/tailors, each from Osun and Kastina, were been trained and empowered simultaneously today (Wednesday) with sticthing machines as part of the capacity building and empowering programme of SMEDAN.

Speaking on the sideline of the training, the facilitator, Mr Mikhail Salau, Deputy Director, Engineering Technology and Infrastructure Department, SMEDAN said three different clothes finishing machines would be presented to the participants in Osun.

He said a Blind sticthing machine, Over Locking machine and Weaving machine would be presented to the trained tailors so their clothes and sewing would have a perfect and standard finish.

“The training is for established fashion designers/tailors, it not for those who are just learning or starting tailoring. It is for tailors that know how to sew and make dresses.

“The training is for the tailors to have perfect finishing for their jobs.

“At the end of the training, three clothes finishing machines would be given to the participants.

“The Federal Government has selected Osun and Kastina State as pilot states for the training and empowerment.

“We at SMEDAN will, however, do a follow up to see how those trained today are doing, every three months, then link them with Nigeria Export Promotion Council, so they can export their wares.” he said.
