Cholera Breaks Out In Osun Community, Three Confirmed Dead

No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead from a cholera disease that broke out in Ede, Ede North Local government of Osun State.

It was however gathered that three other persons were hospitalised and they were in a critical condition.

The cholera according to information gathered by CityMirrorNews broke out
at the popularly Oke gada area of the town.

The incident had thrown the people of the sleepy town into confusion.

The CityMirrorNews gathered that the victims are beggars that usually assemble at the spot.

However, the sudden death of beggars around the area caused confusion as some residents are suspecting food poisoning.

A resident said, “about 13 beggars have been hospitalised after some of them died. It seems they are poisoned because we have never experienced such an issue in our community before”.

Another resident, named Dare, said, “I got to know about the issue on Monday evening, I learnt that some beggars took food from an unknown person and after that, some are dead while others were hospitalised.”

Another source told CityMirrorNews that they must have died as a result of outbreak of strange cholera.

While speaking with our correspondent on the sad , the Osun state Police image maker, Mrs Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident saying three persons have been confirmed dead while three others are currently receiving treatment at an hospital.

Mrs Opalola however disputed the claim of food poisoning.

She said, “The Divisional Police Officer of Ede visited the Seriki of Hausa in the community over the incident because they did not report the matter to the police. The Seriki informed him that it was a Cholera outbreak and not food poisoning.

“Three people are dead while three others are in the hospital. We are still investigating the matter.”
