Misappropriation Of Funds: Osun Govt Sounds Note Of Warning To LG Chairmen

Osun State Government has reemphasized its stand that it would not tolerate any form of misappropriation of funds and misplacement of priorities by the local government administrations.

The state government through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, gave the warning while closing the bilateral discussions on the formulation of year 2022 budget estimates of local government, LCDA, area offices across the state held at Ministry’s Conference Room, Abere.

The Commissioner according to Information Officer, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Lawal, noted that the councils are expected to take proactive and well-targetted actions that would impact greatly on human capital development and lead to skilled and economically productive labour force that will drive the development from the grassroot.

He said the council authorities must prioritise their projects and focus more on the completion of all ongoing projects and make provisions for them in year 2022.

These projects according to Adeleke, must handshake the four development pillars of Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration, which are economic development, infrastructure development, human capital development, security and environmental sustainability.

The commissioner posited that, the Ministry would in the 2022 fiscal year, strengthen its supervisory activities on the councils, with a view to ensuring that the people at the grassroot get the best interms of dividends of democracy.

He said: “Its on the instruction of executive Governor of the state that every year each local government must present their budget before the ministry in oder to have the budget that will positively tourch life of the people and handshake the development agenda of mr Governor Why are we doing this, although the local government has autonomy but one of the major role of the ministry is to monitor the activities of the local government and make sure that people and government fund are not spend on frivollity adding that once the Budget is taking to the House of Assembly and pass it, it has become Law.”

The Iree born politician therefore warned the political office holder and carrier officers in various local government to strictly adhere to what they have in their budget and not derail from what people want in their veriois communities.

As you all aware that Mr Governor doesn’t joke with the development of the state so we must all support him”, he concluded.

In his own speech, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor ministry of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Adegboro Ilori Olokose said, the budget provision at the local government levels must be taken very serious, being the financial plan of the government.

The former Council chairman tasked the council areas to pay adequate attention to health, education, security and human capital developments in a way that would have positive impacts on the lives of the people.

In attendance were, Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mr Kola Adedokun, all the three SSAs of the Ministry and Directors.
