Education: Support Your Alma Mater, Osoba Urges Ex-students
Mr Olusegun Osoba, the former governor of Ogun has urged Nigerians to support their Alma mater and provide the needed assistance where necessary.
Osoba in a statement on Thursday said that the development of the educational sector should not be left in the hands of the government alone.
He made the statements on the backdrop of double celebration held by
his classmates, at Methodist Boys High School, Lagos, to celebrate their sets’ 65 years of admission to the school and their 60 years of graduation in December 1960.
Osoba, who stated that the celebration took place a week ago, added that 66 of them, students were admitted in 1956, and that 38 were already dead.
“Out of 66 of us admitted in January 1956, 38 of us have answered the call of God leaving 28 of us who are still bonding together regularly,” he said.
Osoba, who noted that his set had always given back to the school, urged other Nigerians to emulate the gesture by contributing to the development of their alma mater.
He said the school hall and the staff quarters were built by his set as part of their contributions to the school and that they equally provided financial support when necessary.
“My set led by its President, Gbolahan Odeinde, was named the ‘Liberation Set’ because they were admitted on the year of self-government in Nigeria and they graduated on the year of independence in 1960.
