2023: Kogi CAN Chair Asks Church Leaders To Mobilise Members
The Kogi Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop John Ibenu called on church leaders to mobilize Christians across the state for participation in the 2023 general election.
Speaking during the plenary session of Kogi chapter of CAN in Lokoja on Tuesday, Ibenu stated that every Christian 18 years and above, must register and collect their Permanent Voter Card, PVC, to vote in 2023.
“Another national election period has come and 2022 is going to be campaign year. This calls for serious prayer that God will show us mercy.
“Anyone who says that their votes won’t count should see the example of Anambra election.
“Everyone should vote for the party of their choice. However, everyone should remember our Christian aspiration in governance in the choice of who to vote for,” Ibenu said.
The CAN Chairman also called federal, state and local governments to double efforts to alleviate suffering of the people.
While bemoaning the general security challenges bedeviling the nation, Bishop Ibenu noted that God has been merciful to Kogi state.
“We ask government at all levels to consider the plights of the people, return to the drawing board and propose activities that will practically alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“I urge us all to intensify prayers for the government, the land and the church for unity, peace and progress. Those who truly pray will not support any form of lawlessness,” said Ibenu.
The CAN chairman called for sustained prayers for Kogi state, the church and government.
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his consistent support for the Kogi CAN.
According to him, Governor Bello has been assisting all five blocs of CAN in the state on a monthly basis.
In an exhortation at the plenary session, Pastor Adeboye James Sunday of New Testament Christian Mission International, Lokoja, called on Christians to consciously work towards unity.
He enjoined Christians to avoid strife and other carnal manifestations, warning that without unity most goals will remain unachievable.
Adeboye stressed that unity is powerful as it engenders progress and development.
