We’ve Spent About 5billion Naira On Road Projects Inherited From Last Administration– Osun Commissioner

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Oluremi Omowaiye, on Wednesday, said the State Government of Osun has spent about 5billion naira on various road projects inherited from the last administration.

The Commissioner spoke after inspecting the ongoing Osogbo-Gbongan-Akoda road project in Gbongan.

Osogbo-Gbongan-Akoda dualization road project was among other road projects awarded by the immediate past administration and it was awarded in 2013.

Omowaiye while speaking said Governor Gboyega Oyetola being passionate about the development of the state remobilised the contractors back to the sites in order to ensure speedy completion of those projects.

He said: “I can tell you since Governor Gboyega Oyetola came into office, we have spent about 5billion naira on projects inherited from last administration.

“The Oba Adesoji Aderemi Road, Osogbo-Ila-Odo road, Igbindo to Ipetu Ijesa road are inherited from last administration and we will ensure that these roads get completed because they are gateway to the state capital.

“Osogbo-Gbongan-Akoda dualization road is strategic to development of Osun state. This project was awarded in 2013 and is one of the road projects we inherited from the last administration.

“We want to see to the speedy completion of this project. This is a gateway to the state capital and we want to ensure that the contractor buckle up and that’s why we are here today.

“There have been a lot of noises that what’s happening , so we actually want the people to know that there is a serious work going on here.

“If you also move toward Osogbo, you will discover that a portion of road is being rehabilitated pending the time reconstruction will get to the place. We also got FERMA to come on board to do some portions of roads so that before the constructions get to the place the road will still be motorable.”

While charging the contractors handling the roads against compromising with the quality and standard of the road, Omowaiye emphasized the need for quality jobs and total adherence to project guideline adding that Osun government would ensure speedy completion of the road project.

He said that the present government would not compromise the standard of the projects at all level.

“We are here this afternoon to inspect what is being done. Our Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola always emphasize that we are not going to compromise standard of the road projects at all levels. So far so good we can say we are satisfied with the contractor is doing.”

He revealed that the government has ordered the contractor to reconstruct a portion of the road which had been constructed sometimes ago because it later discovered that the said portion of the road has started failing.

“There is a portion of the road that has been done sometimes ago, but because we discovered it has started failing so we insisted that the contractor must go and reconstruct the portion.

Also, Speaking, Engr Basiru Ojebowale Akanni, the acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport said that the performance of the contractor is encouraging.

He said what the state government is doing is to give the contractor milestones to achieve and so far so good they have been achieving the milestone.
