How Nigerian Politicians Benefit From Banditry, Other Criminal Activities—New Tiv Monarch
Nigerian politicians are making brisk business from banditry and other violent crimes, a traditional ruler has alleged.
Urbanus Ukor, the newly coronated ‘Ter Tiv’ (King of Tiv) in Adamawa state, asserted Yola, the state capital on Saturday.
The monarch condemned a recent attack on Negga village in the state where seven persons were killed.
He, however, accused the political class of using violent criminals against the Nigerian state.
He said, “The problem of insecurity is caused by the political class, otherwise how could mere bandits have access to sophisticated arms?
“They know what benefits they’re deriving from the activities of the bandits.
“When it comes to the crisis involving farmers/herders, I can tell you that the same politicians are to blame.
“Reason being that quite a lot of the cattle you see most herdsmen grazing around belong the politicians.”
On how to tackle the crisis, Ukor advocated that the traditional institution should be given critical roles to play in the country.
