Just In: Kidnapped Travellers Regain Freedom From Gunmen In Osun
By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo
Seven travellers kidnapped last Tuesday along Ibokun/Osogbo road have been released.
This is made known by the Osun State Police Command on Saturday morning.
The commuters were kidnapped by an armed group suspected to be herdsmen.
The gunmen had killed the driver of the bus that was attacked while two others sustained gunshot injuries.
A statement by the Osun Police Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola said the victims were released after the Police and other security operatives mounted “pressure” on the abductors.
Opalola said “the victims were released due to the pressure mounted on the abductors by the Police and other security agencies.
“The victims will soon be reunited with their families.”
The statement did not indicate arrest of the culprits neither did it specify wether there was an actual confrontation with the kidnappers.
But Opalola said the the police command would ensure that future oçcurence would be prevented.
“The Commissioner of Police appeals to the good citizens of the State to collaborate with Police to get rid of all criminal elements from the State, while assuring the members of the public and commuters of their safety as security measures have been put in place to forestall future occurrence.”
