Police Dispel Report Of Armed Fulani Invasion Of Osun Community, Warn Rumour-mongers

The Osun State Police Command has dispelled reports that armed Fulani bandits had stormed Ofatedo area of Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, said it is important to allay the fear that engulfed residents of the town when the news made the rounds on Friday.
CityMirrorNews recalls that a report had trended online ( not on CityMirrorNews) that some suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded/attacked Ofatedo Area of the State.
Olokode, in a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, and made available to CityMirrorNews, on Friday, explained that the report was concocted by purveyors of fake news, and should be disregarded by residents of the town.
The statement, entitled “ Osun State Police Command Debunks News Making The Round That Some Suspected Fulani Herdsmen/bandits Invaded Ofatedo Area Of The State”, reads:
“The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Olawale Olokode, psc has been drawn to the news/rumours making the round that some suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded/attacked Ofatedo Area of the State.
,”The Commissioner of Police in company of the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, CP Abiodun Ige (rtd) personally paid on the spot assessment to the area to ascertain the authenticity of the news being speculated but found out that it was false and untrue.
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police wishes to clear the air and state unequivocally that the news/rumours being peddled are false alarm, a calculated attempt to create apprehension of fear and State of insecurity in the State; therefore it should be disregarded.
“The CP wishes to assure the entire State of adequate security coverage and enjoined the general public to go about their legitimate businesses without any fear of attack or invasion.
“He also advises the citizenry, especially rumour mongers/social media users to jettison such habit and eschew anything that could truncate the peace being enjoyed in the State.
“Also, the citizens are urged to be security conscious, vigilant, co-operate and collaborate with the security agents by giving useful and timely information and report any suspicious movement or activities of criminals through these numbers: 08039537995 & 08123823981.
