Offa Records Another Fire Disaster
By Steve Oni, Ilorin
Offa, headquarters of Offa local government in Kwara state, has recorded another fire disaster.
The fire incident, which occurred on Monday, reportedly gutted a residential building of eight rooms with two attached shops at Isale Ago, Ile Olu-Olo’s Compound, Offa.
A statement by Head, Media and Publicity, Kwara state Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the fire had engulfed the whole building before the arrival of the State Fire Service because the residents were late in calling the Fire Service, adding that on arrival, the Fire Service was able to put off the fire thereby preventing it from spreading to the adjacent buildings.
He said: “Aside from the damaged roof, valuable property were destroyed in the building by the conflagration.
“However, during the course of our investigation, the fire was suspected to be as a result of electric spark from the wiring system of the building.
‘The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Waheed I. Yakub (CFO) has therefore advised the people of Offa town that whenever there is fire incident, they should always remember to call fire brigade on time, in order to save people’s lives and property.”
