After days of intense controversy over a planned lecture to mark 10 years of progressive governance in Osun State and the celebration of two years anniversary of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s administration on the same day feared as likely to ignite a clash between supporters of the governor and those of his predecessor, Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, there seems to be a truce after all.

On Thursday night, Aregbesola finally congratulated Oyetola on the two-year anniversary.

In a letter to the governor, Aregbesola urged the governor Oyetola to continue making the welfare of the people his biggest concern.

“They are the reason of state. Without them there will be no government or any political office to occupy,” he said in the one-page letter.

The Minister of Interior said he looked back with pride and nostalgia to the hard-fought of Oyetola’ election and the continuation of progressive administration in the state.

“There have been challenges along the line- the inclement national financial weather, the COVID-19 pandemic and others not so significant. But you have weathered the storm admirably and steadied the ship of state.

“The challenges will no doubt present a new format as you enter the third year. These are heightened political, pressure to deliver more dividends of democracy, and increased demands from the political system. I have no doubt that you will cope nicely.”

Oyetola who served as Chief of Staff to Aregbesola for eight years later succeeded him in November 2018 as governor.

In recent times, however, there has been intense rivalry between the two accentuated by their political groups Oranmiyan and IleriOluwa.

The All Progressives Congress may have been divided down the line over their division.
