Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke has felicitated with Muslims Ummah on the 1441AH Ramadan fasting, tasking them to follow the teaching of the season as laid down in the Quran.

In his congratulatory message on Friday, Adeleke said, Ramadan as one of the five pillars of Islam prescribed giving support to the less privileged and ones neighbours, which according to him is very critical at this time when there is restriction of movement due to the spread of Covid-19.

He said, Muslims should use this period of Ramadan to move closer to God and pray for quick end to the global pandemic called Coronavirus.

The commissioner stressed that Muslims should realise that this year’s Ramadan fasting is special and provide opportunities to move closer to God in prayers, giving halms, abandon sinful acts and shun any acts capable of hurting fellow human beings.

He said: “This is a time that Muslims cherished so much and pray together, but unfortunately the global pandemic called Covid-19 is denying Muslims this opportunity of gathering to avoid the spread of the disease.

“As Muslims, we must realise that the order for the lockdown was quranic and it is a decision that must be taken by government to tackle the disease, just as Quran teaches us.

“We should therefore be consoled that some past generations of Muslims have also suspended group activities for the safety of the people, hence we should use this opportunity of offering prayers in our individual houses for mercies and forgiveness of our sins.

“While I felicitate with Muslims and wish them a successful and rewarding fasting period season”, Adeleke added.
