Some of the villagers who could not withstand the constant gunfire that reportedly started at 9:30 pm escaped to neighbouring communities.

It was learnt that the vigilante were, however, able to chase away the rogue herdsmen following the gun duel in which no one was killed.

Witnesses said that the herdsmen were earlier chased away from another nearby community, Emii and planned to resettle in Orji before the clash with the vigilante.

Reacting to the incident, National President of Igbo National Council (INC), Chilos Godsent, said that the awareness created by the group helped the local community repel the herdsmen attack.

He recalled that the group had earlier established the “Operation Lion Walk” security network to combat killer herdsmen in Igbo land.

Godsent noted that the group had visited many traditional rulers to intimidate them about the benefits of embracing the security network and many communities were already complying.

The INC National President added that through the effort of the operation, that communities have been able to resist the herdsmen.

The Imo State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident.
