Famurewa Condemns Attack On Gov Oyetola, Describes It As Rebellious Attack
The Executive Chairman of Osun state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Honourable Israel Ajibola Famurewa, has describes recent attack on Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s convoy by suspected hoodlums as rebellious.
Famurewa who is also the Director General of Ilerioluwa Movement
in a statement signed and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo on Monday said the attackers of the governor were purely political thugs, not genuine EndSARS protesters.
CityMirrorNews reports that Governor Oyetola had on Saturday identified with the EndSARS protesters, walking with them from Okefia-Alekuwodo ended up at Olaiya junction, the convergence point of the EndSARS protesters.
Youths across the country had about two week ago embarked on the nationwide protest against the alleged brutality extortion and extra-judicial killings by the operatives of Anti-Robbery Response Squad (SARS), calling for the scrapping of the unit .
Reacting, Famurewa said, the attack on the State governor is a rebellious by political thugs and hoodlums.
According to Famurewa, “the youths are protesting peacefully across the nation because of intimidation and maltreatment been faced by the Ex SARS officers and Osogbo who is the capital city is also among places where the youths are protesting peacefully against injustice and Mr Governor travelled out of state to state to table the demand of the youths to the relevant stakeholders in security sector, which Mr president is the commander in chief of Armed forces.
He further said: “Mr Governor walked down with the protester from Alekuwodo to olaiya junction to address the End SARS protesters adding that he wore a customized End SARS cap to show his solidarity and to let the youths knows that he is on the same page with them.
“The greatest surprise was that political thugs and hoodlums infiltrated the place while the Governor is addressing the cowards and they started shooting sporadically, using machetes and throwing stones on the governor’s convoy.
He noted that “Oyetola as a father of all and man of peace ordered his security details not to shoot as they quickly ran for cover noting that the political thugs and hoodlums destroyed all the vehicles on the Governors convoy while some of the people attached to his convoy sustained injury and the hoodlums loots Osun mall and orisunbare market which lead to the fire that raised the post office.
Speaking further on the incident, he said the Governor is a true democrat, a man of Peace which is why Osun is ranked as the most peaceful state in Nigeria and Oyetola will not allow anyone to play politics with the peace of Osun.
“Because Mr Governor is determined to protect lives and properties, he asked the DSS to make sure the perpetrators are brought to book and he asked them to investigate what lead to the death of two persons which one is said to have died in a lone accident through rough riding of motor bike and the other one through stray bullet at Oke -Ayepe,” Famurewa said.
He therefore advised parents and guidance to continue to keep an eye on their children and always orientate them on how to be patriotic citizens
