Covid-19 Lockdown: Osun Monarch Condemns Police Brutality In Iwo, Calls For Justice

A lady, Abdulazeez Adesola Alimat, was brutalised by policemen in Iwo for allegedly violating the coronavirus lockdown in Osun State.

Mrs Abdulazeez was said to have been beaten by Inspector Ikuesan Taiwo and PC Abass Ibrahim at Odo Ori Market, Iwo Osun State.

Mrs Abdulazeez, who made this known on Twitter on Saturday, said the incident happened on her way to get drugs.

“This is me being beaten by the police today on my way to get drugs and some relief materials for my people,” she wrote while she retweeted a video posted by a Nigerian musician, @Ruggedybaba.
In the video, two police officers were seen lashing a lady with whips.

When contacted, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo, said he has ordered the arrest and detention of the officers involved.

“I have ordered the immediate investigation into the matter. I am not in support of what has happened. I have ordered the arrest and detention of those involved,” he told our correspondent on the phone.

However, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi Telu I, has condemned the alleged assault on Mrs Abdulazeez by policemen in the town.

Oluwo who gave the condemnation on his Facebook page said he has intervened in the matter and he would ensure that Justice is done.

Describing the action of the police against the woman as unacceptable, Oluwo said Iwo is civilised beyond such incivility.

According to the monarch “the act and action of the police against an Iwo woman, Tola Azeez, is condemned. It is unacceptable and barbaric display. Iwo is civilized beyond such incivility.

“The palace has time immemorial device necessary machineries to ensure the community and the police co-habit peacefully for effective security.

“I’ve intervened, the police have gone to her place with the DPO of the affected division to tender their apology formally.

“I urge the citizen to be peaceful and let the matter be handled maturely according to the law in the best interest of the town.

“The police are investigating and will take disciplinary measure.
