Be Peaceful as you Join the Protest, Enunuaye Urged Baptist Youths
By Our Reporter
The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention Youth Conference, NBCYC, Pastor Enunuaye Onajite has urged youths, especially of Baptist extraction to be peaceful as they participates in the ongoing #EndSARS protest nationwide.
He said that protest is a fundamental human right and the government should listen to the agitations of Nigerian youths who are “displeased with government policies”.
In a statement personally signed by him and made available to CityMirrorNews, Onajite said that the group welcomed the banning of FSARS saying that adequate compensation must be given to the victims of the dissolved police formation.
The Baptist youths demanded that all security agent’s involved in extra judicial killings and human rights abuses must be tried in court of law and punished accordingly.
The statement reads:
“As the youth wing of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, we have membership in the entire regions of Nigeria and we can attest that our youths are dignifying, zealous, honorable and diligent, this we can also say about most Nigerian Youths.
“The ongoing protest is the right of every citizen that is displeased with government policies especially the denial of fundamental human rights to life by the defunct FSARs. Youths are unjustly accused and assaulted by those that ought to protect us. We therefore call for an end to the brutality of youths by the security operatives. While we welcome the disbandment of FSARs, we ask that those found guilty of unjust killings be made to face the law, all the detained protesters should be released and adequate compensation should be extended to the families of those who lost their lives while better welfare should be approved for the security operatives at all levels. The labor of these men and women should not be meagerly compensated.
“The peace, progress and prosperity of Nigeria is the focus of these youthful protestants, we therefore ask the government to take real and genuine steps that will transform our security sector. We also call for the reform of all the agencies that are not portraying Nigeria in good light and say no to corruption and impunity.
“We encourage all our members who are participating in this protest online and onsite to keep Hebrews 12:14 in mind, shun unwholesome words (Ephesians 4:29), keep praying for this our Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and keep believing that the glory of this latter House shall be greater than the former (Haggai 2:9).
