Osun: Obokun /Oriade PDP leaders Fault Sunday Bisi’s Appointment, Threaten To Support Adagunodo’ Legal Redress
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijesa North Federal Constituency of Osun state, has described the removal of former Chairman of the party in the state as illegal, saying it is a breach of constitution of the party.”
CityMirrorNews reports that Ijesa North Federal Constituency comprises Obokun and Oriade Local Government areas.
The Ijesa North Leaders of the party according to a release signed by the party chairmen in Obokun, Prince Adelani Owoeye and Oriade, Prince Samuel Adeloye, a copy which was made to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, condemned the removal of Adagunodo as the state party chairman .
The party leaders said “we don’t against the appointment of Hon. Sunday Bisi as the Acting Chairman of the party, he is our friend, but the process that brought him to power is an abuse of constitution of PDP.
” What the constitution says is that whenever there is a vacant seat in the party, it should be filled by another candidate from the same area.”
They stressed that this is clear in the PDP Constitution , Section 47, subsection 6 :
” Where a vacancy occurs in any of the offices of the Party, the Executive
Committee at the appropriate level shall appoint another person from
the area or zone where the officer originated from, pending the conduct
of election to fill the vacancy.'”
Apart from S. 47(6) quoted above, we shall as well refer discerning minds to the unambivalent Sections 7(2)(d), (i) and 7(3) c of the party’s Constitution on the Aims and objectives of our great party that read respectively thus: promote self-respect, self reliance and human dignity.
“S. 7(3)(c) adhering to the policy of the rotation and zoning of the party and public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity Justice and fairness.
” While we don’t have any personal issue or grudge against Sunday Bisi, his choice is a flagrant violation of PDP Constitution. An afront on the Constitution is dangerous.
Hon. Bisi is from Ilesa East, while Hon. Adagunodo is from Obokun/ Oriade Federal Constituency, if there must be a replacement at all, it must be done according to the dictate of the provisions of the party’s Constitution.
“Furthermore, S. 2 of the Constitution of our party reads: subject to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and any other law in force, this Constitution shall be supreme and it’s provisions shall have binding force on all members and organs of the party.
“A calm dissection of what is happening within Osun State PDP reveals a total disrespect to the party’s Constitution and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” While the party’s Supremacy is not in doubt, the exercise of such power must be done within the confirm of the four walls of the Constitution, otherwise it is null and void.
” We fervently hope that the needful shall be done not later than immediately in the overall interest of our party and members, otherwise, we may be forced to stoutly support Hon. Adagunodo to take legal redress in view of the frustration faced while exploring internal mechanism to resolve the issue.”
They claimed that “the Constitution of our party enumerates vividly the various organs and levels of organisation both in the party and in Nigeria, we have Wards, Local Government Areas, Senatorial Districts, States, Zones, (6 Geo – Political zones of Nigeria).
” There is no provision for IJESA ZONE, in either PDP or Nigeria Constitution. Even with Nigerian Constitution, we have Local Governments, Federal constituencies, Senatorial districts, States, Geopolitical Zones, there is no constitutional arrangements that necessitated the shifting of goal posts that led to the appointment of the new Acting Chairman.”
They cited examples of such replacements in the recent times in Ede North, Ejigbo, Olorunda, Atakumosa West Local Governments, where such vacancies occurred and replaced from the same and actual Local Governments, but not via the local governments
The leaders lamented the flagrant abuse of this aspect of the constitution, saying “this was done to spite the Ijesa North and particularly, Obokun Local Government area of Osun State.
“While we believe in the supremacy of the party, such supremacy must operate within the ambits of the law”, they enthused.
The leaders resolved that they would support any legal action taken by their son, Adagunodo to challenge the injustice meted to him by the party.
“We shall support our son on any lawful. action he takes to seek redress of the injustice done to him, hence an injury to one is an injury to all. Hon Sunday Bisi is not our enemy, we only against the unlawful process that brought him in as chairman. If he is interested in the seat, let him wait till 2022 and vie for the seat. ”
The Obokun and Oriade PDP leaders however expressed their heart felt appreciation to those who who stood by them in the initial reinstatement of Hon. Adagunodo as chairman and their unflinching support for the truth. The release reads “we appreciate our fellow compatriots of Ilesa Federal constituency of Atakumosa East, West, Ilesa East and West who stood by the truth while we were demanding for reinstatement of Hon. Adagunodo and the necessitated option of replacement, your remarkable efforts will go down in history.
“We equally appreciate some members of the State Executive committee, Board of Trustees (BOT) members, and all the forthright leaders of Osun PDP like Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and many others for their doggedness on the side of the truth, history will absolve all of you, PDP is our party, we will not be frustrated out of it, as we await the justice if not from human being ,then from God Almighty”, they submitted.
