Surety Fails To Produce Suspect, Becomes Accused

One Adeshiyan Obasanjo, who allegedly aided the escape of a suspect, Yeye Bukola, was on Monday , docked by the police at an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo.

Obasanjo was arraigned for allegedly failed to produce the accused he stood for at the police station.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode had told the court that the accused person committed the offence on July 8,2020 at Dugbe police station

He alleged that the accused stood surety for one Yeye Bukola who is being alleged in a case of obtaining money by false pretence, dud cheque at Dugbe police station that he will produce her on July 9 and any other date as requested until case against her is finally disposed of as required in section 17 Criminal Procedure Law

Adeoye further said that the accused did aid the escape of the accused he stood for to travel out of Osun state and jeopardized the investigation of the police

He noted that the offense committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 137 and 126 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun state 2002

However, accused person pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against him.

Defence Counsel, Okobe Najite applied for the bail of the accused person in most liberal term.

The prosecutor, vehemently opposed the application made by the the Defence Counsel.

He informed the court that the accused and the person he stood for relocated to Ogun since July, and the accused did not show up since then.

Adeoye also said that the surety was tracked before he was apprehended.

In his ruling, Magistrate A.A Adeyeba granted the accused bail in the sum of #500,000 with two sureties in like sum

He thereby adjourned the case till December 9,2020 for hearing
