The vice Chairman, Oriade South Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ipetu-Ijesa , Osun State, Hon Ojedokun Oladele on Wednesday distributed no fewer than 30 5kg cooking gas cylinders with burners to residents of the town.

Oladele while fielding questions from Journalists after the distribution of the Cylinders said the gesture was part of efforts to deepen usage of gas penetration in the council area.

He said the gesture apart from being part of his commitment towards the well being of his people, said he was being mindful of the negative impacts which unchecked environmental degradation have had on the environment in the country.

He noted that “Governments and groups all over the world have come to terms with the need to prevent or mitigate their effects for a safer world. One of the means through which man harms the environment is through felling of trees for charcoal for cooking.

He said he also used the event to educate the people especially the beneficiaries on how to use cooking gas, safety precautions to be observed in cylinders handling, check for leakages and cylinder maintainance.

Oladele said he is committed toward taking cooking gas into every household in the town.

“With the free cylinders given out today, I have freely given 30 cylinders to our people as part of our own contribution towards ensuring the well being of our people and other residents are still going to benefit from the gusture.

The council vice Chairman said the kind gesture was to compliment the efforts of the state Governor , Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who he said is very passionate about the welfare of the people of the state regardless of their Political affiliations or religious beliefs.

Speaking on the usefulness of the gas, the grassroot Political mobiliser said the use of cooking gas will reduce the heat that emit from kerosene stoves, even as he added that it will also ensure healthy living condition as their kitchens where meals are prepared will be clean enough, adding that it will reduce soot and carbon emissions and general air pollution.

He further said: “Scientists have also indicated that cooking gas has no adverse impact on the environment compared with the traditional energy sources such as fuel wood and coal. With the use of kerosene, women and children are directly exposed to pollution.”

Noting that it requires rigorous sensitisation for people to key into the campaign on clean environment, Oladele said “educating Nigerians on the need to switch to this clean and abundant energy service is very necessary for Nigerians, especially women to adopt the cooking gas as their energy service for all their domestic energy needs.

He further said with the use of cooking gas, theedre would be less attack on the environment. He, however, expressed his confidence that with “government’s efforts towards cleaner environment, I’m are sure that adequate sensitisation on the need for people to adopt cooking gas as suitable alternative source of energy for domestic use will be sustained.

He urged beneficiaries to use the cooking gas cylinders as instructed by the manufacturers, saying “you have no need to ignorantly abandon them.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Omowumi Ishola thanked the Vice Chairman for the gusture and assured him that they would put all they had been taught to good use and switch fully to gas usage in their homes.

Mrs Ishola said they continue to support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the LCDA and Osun just as they she promised that they would cast their votes for APC in the coming elections both local government and gubernatorial election.
