Oyetola’s Aide Condemns Incessant Rape, Seeks Stiffer Penalties For Rapists
The Special Adviser to Osun Governor on Public Health, Dr Olasiji Olamiju has condemned all forms of violence against women and the girl child including rape, describing the behaviour as animalistic.
Olamiju expressed his feelings while reacting to reports of incessant rape cases in the country and the recent one of a septugenarian who raped a teenager in Osogbo.
According to him, “rape cases has become a disturbing phenomenon that needed to be tamed because of the increasing number of reported and unreported cases perpetrated by some animals in human skin who still walk about freely without getting purnished.
“I totally condemn in its entirety every inhuman treatment, rape and defilement of our girls and women. They should be respected and valued by society, irrespective of their age, colour or race.
“Rape and voilence against women is animalistic and I call on all female organizations to join forces with civil societies and developmental agencies to strengthen community-based protection for young children against abuse, harassment and exploitation in Nigeria.
“I condemn the terror of rape unleashed upon the 15-year-old by a 75-year-old man in Osogbo, and also, call on the Police to immediately bring the perpetrator of this barbaric act to justice without delay,” Olamiju said.
He however commended the State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Timothy Owoeye for passing into law the bill that recommends life imprisonment for rape perpetrators and 14 years jail term for attempted rape.
