Human Right Activists Charge CP To Prosecute Police Officers Who Brutalised Osun Journalist
A human rights group, Amilca Cabral Ideological School Movement, Osun Stste has condemned the incessant attack on innocent, laws-abiding citizen by men of Nigerian police force in the state.
CityMirrorNews recalls that a police officer had threatened to kill an Osun based online media Practitioner with charms and gun after he was being assulted by the policeman .
The victim, Comrade Jare Tiamiyu is the publisher, Insight Links Magazine and the Chairman, Osun State chapter of Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
The ACIS-M in a statement signed by its Co-ordinator, CDE Akin Asifat on Tuesday called on Commissioner of Police in the State to arrest and prosecute those officers who intended to kill innocent Tiamiyu and after he has been allegedly assauted alongside his trainee while on their way to the office.
The statement reads, “INCESSANT CRIMINALLY ATTACK ON INNOCENT, LAW-ABIDING JOURNALIST IN THE STATE OF OSUN: A CALL FOR JUSTICE!
“Our attention has been drawn to unwarranted attack on Mr Jare Tiamiyu, Chairman Osun State Online Media Practitioner Association of Nigeria along Okinni-Oshogbo Rd. It was equally learnt that affected journalist was coming from Okinni axis to Osogbo while he was being stop by police officer who was not in uniform but stood on the road to ensure stop and search activity.
“But the innocent journalist did not object to the instructions and could be repay back for his obedience was physical asault and humiliation with threat to life through gun shooting and deadly charm.
“We are bold to emphatically state it that Mr Jare Tiamiyu would have been murdered cold-bloodedly,if not by God’s grace that finally safe him this police officer and his cohorts who were on the road that time.
“Our movement condemn this barbaric act totally, while believing that police force was made to secure life and properties of the citizens not to inflicting unjust, inhumane and obnoxious attack on them.
“This singular belief is premised in the act that established Nigerian Police Force and oat each officers swore to whilst taking up assignment.
“We charge the Commissioner of Police in the State of Osun to promptly, as we demand for immediate and unconditional arrest and prosecution of those officers who intend to kill innocent person of Mr Jare Tiamiyu ans harras his trainee while on their to the office for their daily lawful duty.
“Nigerian Police Officers should be friends to common man,not fascists.”
