African Leaders Should Be Role Model–Olagoke

Discussants during this year’s sustainable development Stakeholders International Conference held in Ibadan on Tuesday have called on African leaders to be role models to citizens in their various countries.

Stakeholders from the nations ivory towers, religious leaders, captains of industries and others who spoke on diverse topics on politics ,economy and environment among others included Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke JP Executive Director Centre for Religious Tolerance Cooperation and Tolerance, Professor A.O.Adeokun of Olabisi Onabanjo University,Professor Olukayode Idowu and Alhaji A.A.Alli.

Others include Dr. Robinson Omotayo ,Mr .Ayodele Folami who represented the state Resident Electoral Commissioner ,Dr.IBRAHEEM Adedayo ADEDIRAN and top religious leaders.

The Conference jointly put in place by Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide in collaboration with Centre for religious cooperation and tolerance has as its theme “Achieving Sustainable Development Goal In Africa And Nigeria: The Five Road Maps”

Professor Olagoke in his brief key note address recommended that “every government including Nigeria must offer good governance that will satisfy the needs the needs for the present population without compromising or endangering the possibilities of future generation to satisfy their needs.

The Justice of Peace who has an uncompromising passion for youths added ” for ease of implementation,the youth must be carried along to be responsible to raise awareness,develop emphathy,and solidarity,embrace global best practices to be adapted for local needs as well as motivating other youth to take action”.

Olagoke who was previously the Dean,School of Engineering, Federal
Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun State ,commended the discussants who submitted papers during the conference and assured that the papers would be produced as a text book.

Mr.Folami who represented the state REC hinted that the commission did not stop in its efforts to ensure that democracy thrives in Nigeria and Oyo state in particular adding that his boss was out of Ibadan to attend a seminar with voters

The INEC Deputy Director who is also the spokesman of the commission in the state urged the electorate to resist the temptation of being bribed to vote against their conscience adding that the last election in the state was impressive as the commission won in 32 cases filed against it

Mr.Alli of Impact Business School called on States and Federal governments to address the problems of unemployment which have led to the growing imcidents of crime and criminality in the country.

He recommended that Lawmakers should be made to sit on part time basis in or,der to save the cost of governance and make politics less attractive.

Earlier,Prof Adeokun who who was the Chairman commended the Host,Professor Olagoke who he described as a patriot and philanthropist highly committed to peace and religious harmony in the country.
