The Lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi IREKANDU has called for government’s intervention on private school teachers’ plight and recovery of small scale businesses in the country.

Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi also appealed to citizens of Osun State especially the good people of Obokun State Constituency not to loosen up from following the COVID-19 safety guidelines and preventive measures as stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

This appeal was made by the lawmaker in Osogbo at the weekend and during a live video chat on his official Facebook page on Sunday, July 12.

While commending the people of Obokun State Constituency over the use of nose covers, adherence to social distancing directives and regular washing of hands, IREKANDU reiterated the fact that the virus is deadly and its full-blown communal spread would be disastrous. For now, it has no cure but it can be prevented.

Speaking on the effects of COVID-19 and how badly it has affected the economy, IREKANDU disclosed that with the support of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, there is a bill in the assembly titled ‘State of Osun COVID-19 Economic Stimulus Bill 2020’. “When this bill is considered and passed by the honourable members, it will be of advantage for the state on many fronts.”

IREKANDU stressed that there are cases of loss of jobs, small scale businesses are on the verge of collapse and there is an over-stretch of daily and monthly income of citizens especially non-government workers. The plight of private school teachers at this moment is also quite disheartening.

The young lawmaker, therefore, called on the state government to make provisions for private school teachers, assist small scale business owners with funds and relax the burden of tax on companies with low staff strength who possibly have low profits and gains to survive the moment.

“Teachers of private schools registered with the government deserve our sympathy. Aside from us giving out little to our people to cushion the effect of this hard time, the government needs to intervene and rescue the people from being victims of economic deprivation.”

“All these and many others have been taken care of in the State of Osun COVID-19 Economic Stimulus Bill 2020, in the assembly” IREKANDU concluded.
