Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun, on Monday distributed food items to residents of Oke-Osun, Osaara and Isale-Osun Communities in Osogbo, to cushion the effect of the lockdown put in place by the state government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Amidu Sanni, who was represented by the institution’s Bursar, Alhaja Ali Balogun Silifat, at the distribution of the items, said the gesture was to support the federal and state governments’ efforts in providing palliatives for vulnerable families in the society.

“We are in support of what is on ground by the federal government as well as the state government in support of people that are vulnerable, people that are not well to do in this period of COVID-19.

“There is a lockdown and people cannot go out for their normal daily activities, so we feel this one would be part of the palliatives to assist each family, that is the essence of this distribution especially in this month of Ramada.

“We have rice, beans, semovita as well as meat in each package available for distribution.

“We intend to give out these food items to our immediate communities, that would serve as our social responsibility.

“We will be providing these food packages to people of Oke-Osun, Osaara and Isale-Osun, which are the communities around us.” he said

Sanni said the management of institution took it upon itself to make little contribution to assist the people, with no support from any external body or agency.

“We normally give Ramadan gift, every year, to our staff, especially the lower ranks, but this time around we are trying to extend it to the immediate communities that are around the university in order to cushion the effect of the lockdown.” he said

The VC thereafter admonishes members of public to continue to adhere to the preventive measures given by the Federal Government as well as the NCDC guidelines, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Reacting to the donations, Alhahaji Suleimon Alao, the President of Isale-Osun community said they were very happy for the kind gesture extended to them by the management of Fountain University, praying that God should continue to uplift them.
