June 12: Farewell To Poverty Still A Mirage – Group
A development group, Centre for Sustained Dialogue has described the farewell to poverty campaign slogan of the winner of the 1993 presidential election , Chief MKO Abiola as a mirage despite successive effort of democratic government in Nigeria since 1999.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Program for the Group Comrade Waheed Saka which was made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo to mark this year democracy day.
According to the group, the Farewell to poverty agenda of Chief MKO Abiola, the late winner of 1993 presidential election was like a mirage and more like a rocket science to the beneficiaries of June 12 struggle.
In Comrade Waheed Saka words: Poverty in Nigeria has increased geometrically since 1993 and the recent Covid 19 pandemic exposed the vulnerability of Nigeria. It is unfortunate that our people can not survive a day without hustling for survival. These is why the government at all level must change strategies in achieving the farewell to poverty vision to honour the memory of the winner of the historic June 12 1993 election.
The group also called on government at all level to make a strong law against rape of minor and violence against women and girl child in Nigeria so as to stop the rising cases of rape in the land as those inflicting such a psychological and mental trauma on our women and girls deserves to be 6ft below the surface of the earth, the group suggested.
