By Steve Oni, Ilorin
The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, has stated that his last one year of representing the people of Ilesha/Gwanara state constituency was characterised by selfless service and sacrifice because he was not oblivious of the dearth of basic amenities in Baruten communities before his election.
It would be recalled that the 9th Kwara Assembly was inaugurated on 11th of June 2019, and would clock one legislative year on June 10th, 2020.
Speaking at Baruten stakeholders’ meeting in Okuta, Danladi said though State legislatures have no provision for constituency projects, he and his colleagues made it a duty to sacrifice part of their salaries and allowances to execute different kinds of projects across the 24 constituencies of the State, according to a statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Ibrahim Sheriff.
“Governor AdbulRahman AbdulRazaq’s passion for the development of Baruten and Kwara North is obvious with the groundbreaking projects in all our communities, we owe it a duty to also sacrifice and complement his efforts, which birthed no fewer than 90 self funded projects by my constituency office”, Danladi said.
“It is not about politics, we know where we are coming from and the change we echoed must be made visible. That is our driving force and we are just starting”, he added.
The Speaker also joined the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local government to welcome defectors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who said their convictions to dump the PDP was hinged on monumental development the Baruten local government has witnessed in the last one year under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Notable among thousands of the defectors, Danladi disclosed, are Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar Ismaila – former liaison officer in Baruten LG, Hon. Salihu Abubakar Wene Ishaq – Deputy Speaker, Baruten LG, Hon. Adamu Doo Yunusa (Osando) – ex-PDP Vice Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Y. Galadima, Sinau, Mohammed Idris – P. A Domestic to Hon. Zakari Mohammed and Mrs. Sarah Kperogi Gani, who served as Special Assistant to former Gov. Ahmed on boundary matters.

The local government party Chairman, Mall. Adamu Abubakar (Setraco) pleaded for forgiveness from all aggrieved members, adding that the Speaker and other political stakeholders from the LG are not far from home and they would continue to listen and attend to their yearnings.
In his remarks, the party local government Vice Chairman, Mall. Usman Mafara, said there is no crisis in Baruten APC, “we have forgiven ourselves and now speak in one voice. Rt. Hon. Danladi has shown the right leadership that unifies us, we thought he would be a Gwanara Speaker, but he showed and proved overtime he is for all and we are ready to follow his lead and support him to succeed.”
