Sack your Underperfoming Service Chiefs, Baptist Youth Tells Buhari
By Our Reporter
The youths of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, NBC, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack all the service chiefs citing ‘underperformance and inability to contain the security challenges in the country” as their reasons.
The youths made the call in a statement signed by Pastor Enunuaye Onajite, the President, Nigerian Baptist Convention Youth Conference, NBCYC, on Friday, saying that the security of the nation is no longer assured under their leadership.
The statement also urged Buhari to overhaul the entire security architecture of the nation stating that “modern warfare, terrorism, banditry and other forms of security threats can not be fought with ancient method and archaic weapons”.
He said, “If we are going to solve the security problem in the country, these service chiefs must go so that fresh hands can come in with fresh ideas.
“They have nothing new to offer the system any longer and the recent serious security breaches around the country that has led to the severing of the head of a Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, local government Chairman, brutal murder of our youths, kidnapping and banditry that has claimed several lives among others are clear testimonies that the current service chiefs have nothing to offer the system again.
“Before we descend into a failed state where life would become short, brutish and nasty, they must be relieved of their posts.”
Onajite further stated that there was need to restructure the security architecture of the country for efficiency, effectiveness and secured nation noting that until we get the structure right, nothing would change.
The group condemned the recent killing of the Catholic seminarian and abduction of three others at the Good Shephered Catholic Major Seminary in Kaduna.
“Intelligence gathering is the heart of modern security. What is the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, and the State Security Services, SSS, doing? Have we felt their impact as a nation? Not only service chiefs should go but heads of these agencies should get a boot too”.
NBCYC called on the Christian Association of Nigeria, to be at alert and sensitive like Nehemiah in his days while rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he also implored his people to be watchful so the enemies wouldn’t take the by surprise. Towards the developments in the country he urged youths in the nation to embrace peace saying that without peace, there can not be any meaningful development.
