Kwara North: Stakeholders Reiterate Commitment To Development
By Steve Oni, Ilorin
Stakeholders in Kwara North Senatorial District have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that the people of the area enjoy dividends of democracy in the new dispensation in the state.
The stakeholders, comprising political office holders and elected officials from the district, spoke at a town hall meeting in Kosubosu, headquarters of Baruteen local government area, to acquaint the people with the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration in the last one year and to also intimidate them of more developmental projects in the offing for the area.
The meeting had ten representatives from each ward of the senatorial district in observance of the COVID 19 safety protocols.
Speaking, the Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Yakubu Danladi Solihu, stressed the need for the people to stay focused on projects that would develop the area rather than making uncoordinated requests which may not be in the interest of the district.
Danladi said he was aware that some politicians were coming to the people to make promises to cause distraction and urged them not to be deceived, adding that Governor AbdulRazaq is sincere with the people as can be observed from the various projects embarked upon by the administration in Kwara North since the governor’s inauguration in 2019.
He showcased some of the projects in the area, including healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and general wellbeing of the people.
He said: “The Governor has awarded the total overhaul of the General Hospital, Okuta and the Baruteen FM station as well as other projects in the offing. Tractors have been made available to farmers in the senatorial district in recognition of the fact that Kwara North is the food basket of the state.
“Other achievements of the administration include electrification projects from Ogboro to Ilesha, Gwanara, Ningurume, Gobo to mention a few aside from road construction, water reticulation as well as provision of boreholes in areas where potable water has been posing challenges in times past.”
Earlier, the Speaker in company of Senator Sadiq Umar Suleiman representing Kwara North and House of Representatives member Omar Mohammed Bio of Baruteen/Kaiama Federal constituency had paid homage to the Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Prof. Abubakar Ibrahim Halidu, where he was informed of the essence of the stakeholders meeting and the need to remind the people that Kwara north has ample opportunities, the Governor having expressed special interest in the senatorial district.
Lauding the Emir for his support to the government, Danladi disclosed that the 2021 appropriation is underway and the administration deemed it expedient to consult with the people to enable them set developmental priorities right, adding that the KWASU Ilesha campus would receive attention in the budget so that contractors can return to site to complete the project.
He said government would continue on the path of changing developmental narratives of Kwara North, while challenging leaders of Kwara North to develop and present developmental templates to government because “we need to justify being elected in 2019 before talking about 2023”.
Senator Umar Sadiq Suleiman and Hon Mohammed Omar Bio corroborated the Speaker, saying the people of Kwara North, for the first time, are enjoying full dividends of democracy.
