Coronavirus: We ‘ve Done So Much To Flatten Curve Of Pandemic ~ Says Osun Govt

The government of the state of Osun says it has mobilised available resources in human and material to tackle the ravaging coronavirus in the state.

The government expressed satisfaction about the outcome of the efforts made so far in the bid to curb the spread of the virus, through community transmission and any other possible means.

The State Deputy Governor and Chairman, Osun Covid-19 Task Force, Mr Benedict Alabi, disclosed this on Thursday in his office in Osogbo, while fielding questions from Media Team of Quick Raise, an organisation committed to the task of raising funds to cushion the adverse economic effect of Covid-19.

He lauded Governor Gboyega Oyetola for his proactiveness and laudable level of commitment to the activities of the Covid-19 19 Task force in the state, to flatten the curve of the pandemic.

Alabi stated that the state government promptly set up Technical Committee and other committees for rapid intervention towards containing the dreaded virus at the point the index case in Nigeria was confirmed in Lagos.

” I will like to commend our amiable Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, for providing leadership and for giving the needed support to fight this battle against the ravaging pandemic in Osun.

“With the level of proactiveness and preparedness of our Governor, we were able to rise up to the occasion on time in curbing the spread of the pandemic, which help to keep the figures relatively minimal.

“Immediately after the virus became pandemic in early March, the Osun task force was activated and it embarked on several advocacies on the required precautionary measures and protocols to stay safe, with training of about four thousand medical personnel as well as putting necessary facilities in place to manage the disease “, he said.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that Osun has over 350 beds in it’s isolation centres , aside ICU facility put in place, adding that the state is one of the five states in the country that have been assessed and cleared by NCDC for reaching the threshold of over 300 -bed isolation facility as required.

“The government, under the leadership of our amiable Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, has renovated and revitalized about 332 Primary Health Centres across the state, to keep the health sector optimally functional .

“This is a pointer to the selfless commitment of the present administration in the state to the healthy living and welfare of the people of Osun”.

He reiterated the resolve of his team not to rest on its oars at ensuring that the spread of COVID 19 is contained, saying disease control officers are now available at the local governments across the state.

Alabi added that Sample Testing of suspected cases and enforcement of precautionary measures remain effective.

He however called on sons and daughters of Osun, both home and in diaspora , as well as international organizations to identify with the state in this trying period with their financial support, declaring that government can not do it alone.

“Our health care system in the state has been fully upgraded to function maximally, and it has continued to receive global commendation, I will like to call on the people of Osun to continue to cooperate and support the government for the good of all”, Alabi implored.
