COVID-19: Lalong Shut Plateau Borders

The Plateau State Government has shut all border entry and exit points into Plateau State with effect from 6am Thursday 2nd April, 2020 in a bid aimed at preventing the spread and containment of the coronavirus.
According to the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof Danladi Atu said the decision became necessary to enable government intensify its efforts aimed at fighting the novel disease and preventing possible outbreak in the state.
He said, “Traders selling food items are to henceforth maintain 5 meters distance directive”.
“There has been no recorded case of the disease in the state, even as some suspected samples have been taken for examination, non has turned out positive”.
“There is enhanced sensitization particularly at the grassroots level as we have engaged stakeholders cutting across all sectors, local governments have also keyed into the state task force and that aisreplicating what we are doing at the state level in terms of sensitization and enforcement .”
He noted that the state government had been carrying out preliminary examinations at the border entry points to ensure that all passengers undergo temperature assessment.
“We have continued our enforcement of regulations earlier issued, so far there is substantial compliance.”
He expressed the government’s displeasure at some transport operators for not complying with the state government’s directive as they carry passengers as they previously did.
Atu advised the general public to adhere strictly to the new directive stating that security agencies have been directed to enforce full compliance.
