Breaking: Oyetola Reverses Aregbesola’s Education Policies, Leaves Opon-Imo, Others

Osun State Government has finally abolished the single uniform for secondary schools in state.
The decision was taken today at the State Executive Council meeting.
The Council unanimously agreed to all the recommendations of the Education Policies Review Committee.
The committee had last week submitted its report to the Governor of Osun, recommending a reversal of the single school uniform regime.
The committee also recommended a return to the 6-3-3-4 education system in line with the National Education Policy.
The recommendations of the panel was presented by its Chairman, Professor Oluremi Aina to the Governor of the State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola.
It was also recommended that the Tutors-General and Headmasters-General be replaced with Permanent Secretaries.
The executive council unanimously agreed and approved the recommendations.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode at a press conference jointly addressed by her counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Mr Folorunso Bamisayemi, disclosed to newsmen that the recommendations of the committee were approved at the executive meeting held on Monday.
She said: ‘the Council has approved the reversal of single uniform to take effect from next academic session where schools will be using their former, separate uniform.
“It was also agreed that the school should be referred to as ‘Grammar School’ as it were as against Middle/High School introduced by the former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
“The executive also agreed that the schools be reversed to 6-3-3-4 as against 4-5-3-4 introduced by Aregbesola.”
According to her, the reversal became necessary because of overwhelming demand from people of the state.
She further said: “It was also agreed that the tablet of knowledge ‘Opon Imo’, be reintroduced while government will consider collaborative with stakeholders for effective implementation.
“The merger of girls high school and boy school was also reversed with each staying as they were initially.”
The Commissioner disclosed that ten of the recommendations were approved at the executive meeting.
