Lawmaker Launches Empowerment Programme In Osun, Doles Out Cash To Vocational Trainees

The joy of some youths in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun state knew no bound yesterday, as they smiled home with cash through an empowerment programme organized by Hon Taiwo Oluga.
Oluga, who represents Irewole Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, organized the empowerment programme as a way of giving back to the society and in fulfilment of her electoral promise.
Tagged: “Taiwo Oluga Youth Empowerment Scheme” no fewer than 100 youths were offered appointments through the empowerment programme.
The trained youths called Taiwo Oluga Corps were given employment letters and later deployed to Schools, Primary Health Centres and Environmental section to cover area where there is shortage of workers for the development of the state.
A huge amount of money according to our Correspondent were also doled out to all the vocational trainees during the official flag off of the scheme.
Oluga had during her electioneering campaign promised to give back to her constituents and ensure they become self reliant.
She said Taiwo Oluga Youth Empowerment Scheme is her response to checking the high rate of youth unemployment in Nigeria.
“The rate of youth unemployment at 40 per cent in Nigeria is worrisome , more so as youths account for 70 per cent of our population. If 40 per cent of 70 per cent are unemployed, it calls for concern of everyone.
“I am aware of the high rate of unemployment and I am of the opinion that we should do something to support the government. That is why we are having this empowerment scheme.
Speaking during the official launch of the scheme, the Chief Whip of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon Tunde Olatunji described the programme has the model of it kind which he said would help in empowering hundreds of youths and aged in the constituency.
Olatunji who presented appointment letters and handed over cash to first batch of the beneficiaries said the programme is commendable.
According to the Chief Whip Hon Taiwo Oluga has done tremendously well for engaging productive youths that would support both in education and Primary Health, describing it as cardinal aspect of the community.
He charged the beneficiaries to see their appointment as opportunity to contribute to the development and growth of their communities.
The chairman, Irewole local government, Prince Abass Aderemi described the initiative is a unique initiative.
He commended Oluga for empowering the professional youths in their various fields of study, adding that the opportunity would allow the youth to practice their profession.
Those that were trained on vocational training were also supported with fund to setup their business.
The party chairmen of All Progressives Congress and political stakeholders in Irewole federal constituency, traditional rulers, market men and women, students among others graced the event.
