Osun Council Boss Under Fire Over Alleged Financial Impropriety

The Chairman, Irewole Local Government, Osun state, Hon Remi Abbas has been reportedly suspended.

It was gathered that acting Chairman has also been nominated and sworn in immediately.

The Acting Chairman according to the information is Hon Sulaiman Ojekunle from Ward 2, Irewole Local Government.

The suspended chairman was said to have been accused of financial misappropriation.

According to a parliamentarian, who preferred his name not to be mentioned said the parliamentary decision to suspend Abbas came on the heel of the financial allegation leveled against him.

He noted that there were allegations of financial impropriety against the Chairman and committee was set up to look deeply into the matter, the committee submitted the report and found him wanting.

He further explained that, the Parliamentarians later moved a motion of suspension and nomination for the post of Acting Chairman was raised and seconded, the acting Chairman was sworn in immediately.

He said; “the Parliament in their unanimous decision took the step to safe the face of Government and to serve as deterrent to others willing to do similar scandal.

The parliamentarian said they have written Local Government Service Commission to officially inform them about the development

He noted that, in their letter which was written through the office of Council Manager, they implored commission and all necessary authorities not to reckon with Remi Abbas again, as he is no more the Council boss for Irewole LG, the new face of Government for Irewole Local Government is Hon Sulaiman Ojekunle.

Reacting, Hon Abbas said there was nothing of such at the parliament level.

Abbas who spoke with our Correspondent on phone said he is still remain the chairman of the local government.
