Oyo Governor Says He Inherits N150 Billion Debt

The past administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi left a whopping sum of N150 Billion or 500 Million Dollars as debt for its successor,Governor Oluseyi Makinde disclosed Friday evening while fielding questions from members of the public on his 30 days in office

The State Chief Executive also disclosed that commissioners and other political appointees would be put in place between the next 10 and 14 days for the smooth running of the government.

The Governor lamented that the debt left by his predecessor was not tied to any project as it is usually the case.

He said that his administration was not witchhunting its predecessor as being insinuated in some quarters stressing that the right thing should be done to move the state forward positively.

The Governor who was 30 days in office Saturday assured the people of the State that with their cooperation,his administration would bring relief to the people of the State.

Makinde revealed that the federal allocation every month is N4.5 Billion whereas the monthly workers salaries are N5.4 Billion with a shortage of One Billion Naira to be sourced for through Internally generated Revenue.

The Governor disclosed that he would review downward the budget of N280 Billion made by the past administration because it was not realistic.

Answering a question on the bickering as regards the disposition of coalition partners to appointment,Makinde said that it was the fabrication of opposition to cause disaffection adding that the remaining appointment would be announced in less than a fortnight.

The Governor said that his administration would be gender friendly pointing out that there are many articulate women who could prove their mettle like men in all fields of human endeavours.

He appealed to parents to invest effectively on the education of their female children unlike the misconception that female children have no value like their male counterparts.

The Governor decried the parlous state of education in the state and assured that it would be revived and restored to its past glory.

He also hinted that the agriculture sector would be boosted to provide job opportunities for our youths and foster economic development of the state.
