Husband, Wife Shot As APC,PDP Clash In Osun

Tension has pervaded Ilare-Ijesa, a community in Obokun Local Government of Osun state over the attack on a family by a suspected political thug.

The incident according to information occurred during a clash that ensued between the loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the sleepy community.

The husband and wife, Mr Elijah Babajide and Mrs Omoyeni Babajide who were both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were shot during the crisis that erupted on Tuesday.

The yet-to-be identified suspected thug allegedly shot Babajide on the chest and the wife on the leg.

The attack on the couple has been frightening other members of the APC, and some of them have been leaving the community for the fear of being attacked.

Military men and mobile policemen have been deployed to the town to calm the situation and forestall any further breakdown of law and order, it was learnt.

Both the husband and wife were said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

While reacting to the crisis, the Owalare of Ilare, Oba Adejoro Otebolaku Ogidan III declared that though, there was a rift between loyalists of the PDP and APC which led to the arrest of some members of the parties by the police and they were later released.

The Owalare confirmed that though there was gun shots in the early hours of Tuesday, but the identity of the shooters had not been identified, while calling on the police to arrest two principal suspects who are still at large as at the time of filling this report.

He stated that there is now peace in the town residents of the Community are going about their normal business.

The monarch urged the police to conduct adequate and unbiased investigations to unravel the matter, warning that innocent people should not be arrested for crimes not comitted by them.

“The police should do its job without any bias or sentiment, they should look for those who vommityed crime and ran away instead of arresting innocent people. We have given the police the list of those who are terrorising the Ilare Community, some of them are now at large, we  want the police to arrest them and prosecute them accordingly.”, the monarch said.

Reacting to the development, Police Public Relations Officer, Folasade Odoro said some arrest have been made in connection with the crisis, saying investigation still going on.
