Sofolahan Sets To Restructure Scouting Activities In Ondo State

The newly inaugurated Deputy President, Ondo state Scouts Council, Prince Soga Sofolahan DCC has promised to restructure scouting activities in the state.
Speaking shortly after his induction at Sunshine Camporee 2019 ceremony in Akure, Prince Sofolahan expressed his readiness to ensure the revival of policies and ideals of scouts association in accordance with the dreams of founding fathers in 1915.
Pledging his readiness to serve in his new capacity, Sofolahan promised to rejuvinise the hierarchy in scouting activities in the state by improving on youths engagement at all levels.
He affirmed the fact that scouting associations law of 1915 is meant to develop good leadership among the youths and can not be a paramilitary since the association do not pray for war but rather interested in positive change in the communities.
The Deputy President also shows his readiness to constitute a committee that will put the state law in place as soon as possible in line with what operates in other states and the world over.
Earlier in his welcome address, the state Scouts Commissioner, Prince Mohammed Simple Abdullaih said scouting is to contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the scout promise and laws to help build a better world where people are self fulfilled as individuals and to play a constructive role in society.
The year 2019 ceremony which is tagged, “Ondo state sunshine Camporee” with theme “Friendship in Unity” has delegates drawn from all the 18 local governments area of the state and neighbouring states of Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo and Lagos.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Chief Commissioner, Scouts of Nigeria, Prince Adeolu Oyelami disclosed that scouts is a voluntary organization which has become a profession.
While commending Ondo state council for exhibiting lofty ideas, he stressed the need to have someone who could harmonise these ideals together in person of Prince Sofolahan, the newly inaugurated Deputy President.
He however decried the rate at which members are running themselves down in the social media which he said may necessitate the composition of a disciplinary committee.
Also speaking, Chief J.O Tawose urged participants to cultivate the habit of record keeping to sustain the ideals of the association and enable everyone to keep their heads above board.
The spokesperson of Ondo state scouts council, Dr. Tunde Fajimbola disclosed that the sunshine camporee 2019 is the second in the history of the state, the first been during the time of governor Adebayo Adefarati.
In his statement, Mr. Alaba Oladeji who is also member of Board of Trustees of Scouting Association in Nigeria who spoke on behalf of Ondo state government however assured the readiness of governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to offer necessary cooperation and support to ensure that scouting activities is revived in the state.
