Lyched Okota Ballot Snatcher Not Our Member – OPC
Yoruba emanicipated group, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has denied the claimed that one of it’s leaders identified as Ademola was lyched at Okota on Saturday during the Presidential and National amAssembly polls in Lagos State.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by OPC Publicity Secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, the group dismissed the report that its member was stoned by angry electorate following an attempt by hoodlums to truncate the electioneering process in the state.
Oguntimehin said OPC was a responsible organisation that believed in democratic process and freedom of choice during election.
He however said the report at his disposal indicated that a member of the late Faseun’s group was reportedly killed by irate mob at Okota area of Lagos and stated that the incident was not connected to OPC.
“We are not touts or ballot box snatchers. As law abiding citizens of this nation, we will never do anything to compromise our intergrity. Let it be known that OPC is not a political organisation.
The group reaffirmed it’s commitment to a peaceful, free, fair and credible election stating that OPC under Aare Gani Adams had nothing to do with thuggery or violence.
“I need to state clearly that Ademola is not a member of our group. Ours is a group of professionals and educated members. We have structures across the country. People can attest to the fact that the Aare Gani Adams- led OPC are not vagabonds or thugs.
We have transited into a brand new OPC, with a clear-cut ideology. And part of our ideologies is to propagate peace across the country especially in the South West.”
Oguntimehin, urged Nigerians to remain peaceful till the end of the election process.
“From the turnouts during the poll, we noted that Nigerians are committed to democracy. We have started well, and I will urge all the electorate to remain peaceful by cooperating with the police and electoral umphire to ensure a free, fair and credible poll” he said.
